As
economic activity resumes in the post-pandemic world, CO2 emissions are likely
to bounce back, especially from the transportation sector. Demand for passenger
air travel, as well as overall freight demand globally by sea, air and road picks up again creating a very significant challenge in the decarbonisation
effort. The aviation, shipping and road transportation sectors will need to
play their part in the energy transition and explore pathways of reducing their
environmental footprint. In this session, we will explore:
- What are the energy
transition challenges that the aviation, shipping and road transportation
sectors face?
- Are there any immediately
available solutions to start the journey of decarbonizing those sectors?
- What is the role of low and
zero-carbon fuels in air and maritime transport?
- Can the battery or hydrogen
technology come to the rescue? What is the uptake of these technologies so
far and what does the future hold?
- Alongside alternative
fuels, what other steps and efficiencies (including synergies between
them) can these sectors of transport pursue?
